How do I apply for a Study Permit?
To be eligible to study in Canada, you must be accepted by a designated learning institution in Canada. Once you receive a letter of acceptance, you can then apply for a study permit. When choosing your program of study in Canada, it must align with any past employment or educational experience that you have. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will be analyzing your study plan to see if your chosen studies in Canada conform with your experience. This is why a strong study plan is crucial to making sure that you have a good foundation for your study permit application.

You will also need to demonstrate to IRCC that you can financially support yourself and any individuals accompanying you to Canada. At a minimum, you will need to show that you have $10 000 Canadian if studying outside of Québec, and $13 134 for a student aged 18 or over if studying in Québec.

IRCC must be convinced that you will return to your home country at the end of your studies, this can be done by demonstrating your ties to your home country. Other eligibility requirements are that you are in good health, that you are fully vaccinated, and that you have no criminal record.
Can I work during my Study Permit?
Generally, you can work while on a study permit. However, if you would like to remain in Canada after the expiration of your study permit on a Post-Graduate Work Permit, it is important to ensure that length of the program chosen and the type of program qualify for the post-grad work permit.
