Permanent Resident Cards

Whether you're applying for your first permanent resident card, renewing it, or attempting to replace a lost card, I am here to help. All permanent residents must meet a residency requirement, but if you're in need of renewal and have not met this requirement, there are still ways to accomplish your goals.

Permanent Resident Card

What is a Permanent Resident (PR) Card?

A Permanent Resident Card is a credit-card-sized plastic card required for all Canadian permanent residents wishing to re-enter Canada by plane train or boat. If you are a new permanent resident, you will automatically receive your new PR Card as part of the immigration process.

What are the requirements to renew a PR Card?

When renewing your PR Card you need to have lived in Canada for at least 730 days (2 years) during the last 5 years. The Canadian Government offers a Travel Journal to help you record your trips out of Canada over the 5 year eligibility period. It is recommended that you use the travel journal or another similar method to keep track of your trips outside of Canada.

What if you want to travel and your PR Card has expired or is about to expire?

It is important to have a valid PR Card if you intend to travel outside of Canada. Please call me so that we can work on a plan to ensure that you will be able return to Canada without any complications. Without a valid PR Card on your return to Canada by commercial vehicle (plane, train, bus or boat), you may not be able to board.

If you could not meet the eligibility requirement

If you could not meet the eligibility requirement of 730 days during the last five years, you may still be eligible to apply for renewal. Please contact me for a consultation to see how I can help you.
