Family Sponsorship
Are you a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident with a family member whom you would like to live with you in Canada? Immigration Canada's sponsorship program will allow you to bring this individual to Canada so that you can live as a family together.
Family reunification is one of the pillars of Canadian Immigration Law. Canada has actively encouraged immigration to not only strengthen the economy but to bring families together so that they can build a prosperous life for their families here in Canada.
Before beginning the process of family sponsorship, it is important to understand two critical factors:

-
The Sponsorship process will allow your family member to achieve Permanent Resident (PR) status in Canada
-
You, as the sponsor, will need to make a financial commitment to provide for and support your family member financially.

Who can be sponsored?
The following individuals can be sponsored to Canada:
-
Your spouse (husband or wife)
-
Your common-law partner
-
Your dependent children
-
Your partner's dependent children
-
Your parents
-
Your grandparents
Who can be a sponsor?
To sponsor your family member, you are required to meet certain criteria. Most notably, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is 18 years of age or older, and you must demonstrate that you are able to financially support the sponsored person for several years.
